Beginner Sewing 1- 2018

This class will explore beginning sewing terms, supplies and some notions. You will learn to plan a project and then sew it. You will learn basic sewing techniques and will sew projects to practice and reinforce them. There is sewing homework.  Sewing at home helps you remember techniques, achieve independence and grow your confidence sewing.

We begin with very basic sewing information.  I assume you have no idea about fabric grain or selvage, pattern direction, thread, scissors, needles, pins, sewing machines and such.  Your projects will include: 2 placemats and napkins, a pair of PJ bottoms from a commercial pattern, Martha's Tote and Martha's make-up bag (projects from Martha Pullen's beginning sewing curriculum). You may see the Beginning Sewing Class sample projects at Charlotte Sewing Center.

I will demonstrate very basic machine knowledge: winding a bobbin, threading the machine, changing feet, tension settings, stitch settings and answering questions you may have.

If you do not already have a sewing machine, do NOT rush out to purchase one until after your first class. If you feel you must purchase before class, please, call me before you purchase. I will give you information about what you will need in your first machine.  You will not need your sewing machine at the first class.

This is a six weeks class. Class is one night a week for six weeks.

This is a six week class.  You will learn and sew a lot in the 15 hours you are in class. The class fee is $150.00. There are additional costs involved with this sewing program. (Ex: patterns, fabric, thread, etc.) You will get a class supply list at the first class and a project supply list at each class for the next class.

Minimum class size is 4 students. Maximum class size is 6 students. Please register at least one week before the first class. Registration fee is $75.00 due when you register the balance $ 75.00 is due before the first class.  You may call Charlotte Sewing Center 704-525-9022 to register for class.

Dropbox links for each class video are provided as a support tool for each class.  The link will be sent to your e mail address after class.  Previous classes really appreciate the step by step videos and have found them a very useful tool to support the skills they are learning in class.
