Learn to Quilt - Quilting Basics CANCELLED
In this class you will learn all the very basic techniques for making a quilt, including fabric and batting selection and preparation, thread selection, how to use a rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat, making templates, accurate piecing and matching intersecting seams, sewing accurate seam allowances and more. We will piece together a quilt top for a table runner, make the quilt 'sandwich' and learn how to mark the quilt for quilting. We will quilt the table runner using the presser foot on the machine and by doing free motion quilting. Finally, we will bind the quilt. Featured piecing techniques are strip piecing, half-square triangles and curved seams. Learn to make mitered corners and ‘corner stone’ borders. All of this in six class sessions!
There will be homework. In class we work on practice fabrics; at home you apply what you learn as you create your table runner. A materials and supplies list will be provided, usually by email, before the first class.
In class we are going to focus on developing skills and techniques and will be working on samples. You will be able to keep the samples that you make in class in a notebook that you can keep for future reference. An autumn table runner project is part of the class; most of the table runner will actually be done as homework. So between classes, you will work on the table runner, putting into practice what you learned in the class. In class, we will work with practice fabrics, making samples that you can store in your notebook for future reference.
