Not My Grandma's Dresden Plate -starts August 17th, evening class, 6-8:30 pm

The Dresden Plate quilt pattern made from scraps of flowery fabrics with a simple fabric circle center was very popular during the 1920s and 1930s.  But this class is not about the 20th century Dresdens.  In this class we will make modern Dresdens!  Dresdens with curved blades, peaked blades, straight-edge blades and 3-sided blades!  Dresdens that are layered to add depth, that use stripes to create interest, that have exciting folded-fabric or fussy-cut centers.  The photo above is of Susan's finished quilt top.  See the photos below for examples of centers and some of the dresden plates.  The class is scheduled for 5 sessions but we may add a sixth session if needed.

You can choose the project you want to adorn with your Dresdens; choose from a pillow or wall-hanging, a 48”x18” table runner or a 48”x54” modern quilt.  The Dresden Christmas Wreath pillow is 24” but could be a wall-hanging instead of a pillow, or use spring colors and make it an Easter Wreath or just a happy Welcome Spring wreath.  Combine 18” and 12” Dresdens to make a 48” x 18” table runner as shown by the concept picture; add a border to make it a bit wider and longer.  Use 18”, 12” and 24” Dresdens to make a 48”x54” quilt inspired by the ‘Thoroughly Modern Dresden Quilt’ photo shown.

The sample quilt shown above is in the works and on display at the store, so stop by to see it.  The Wreath Pillow is also at the store.  The real ones look so much better than the photo.

To register for the class please phone the Charlotte Sewing Center, 704-525-9022.  $75 Class Fee, $40 deposit due at registration; $35 due at the first class.   You are responsible for purchasing your own materials.  Materials list will be emailed to those registered for the class so be sure to leave your email address when you register for the class.  You will also need to purchase an 18-degree acrylic Dresden Ruler such as “Fast-2-Cut Templates” by Anelie Belden or the EZ Quilting Dresden by Darlene Zimmerman.
