Beginner Sewing 1 2025

This class explores beginning sewing terms, supplies and some notions. You will learn to plan a project and then sew it. You will learn basic sewing techniques and will sew projects to practice and reinforce them. There is sewing homework. Sewing at home helps you remember techniques, achieve independence and grow your confidence sewing.
We begin with very basic sewing information. I assume you have no idea about fabric grain or selvage, pattern direction, thread, scissors, needles, pins, sewing machines and such. Your projects will include, 2 placemats and napkins (some projects are from Martha Pullen's beginning sewing curriculum). You can see the Beginning Sewing Class sample projects at Charlotte Sewing Center.
I will demonstrate basic machine knowledge: winding a bobbin, threading the machine, changing feet, tension settings, stitch settings and answering questions you may have. You will also get lots of tips to help you get comfortable and productive with your sewing machine.
If you do not already have a sewing machine, do NOT rush out to purchase one until after your first class. If you feel you must purchase before class, please, call or e mail me before you purchase. I will give you information about what you will need in your first machine. You will not need your sewing machine in the first class.
This is a six weeks class. Class is usually one night a week for six weeks. Occasionally it is necessary to double up in a week to get all six classes finished before a holiday or previously scheduled conflict.
You will learn and sew a lot in the 15 hours you are in class. The class fee is $250.00. There are additional costs involved with this sewing program. (Ex: patterns, fabric, thread, etc.) You will get a general sewing supply list at the first class as well as a project supply list for each project.
A USB stick will be given to you at the first class with all the information needed for the six weeks of class. I will have printed booklets for use in class. If you desire you may print the class booklet for yourself. The information on the USB is copy right protected. Please, DO NOT share this information with others. It is for your use as a member of the class.
Dropbox links for each class video are provided as a support tool for each class. The link will be sent to your email address after class. Our students truly appreciate the step by step videos and have found them a very useful tool to support the skills they are learning in class.
