Happiness 2.0 Quilt Workshop, a Jacqueline de Jonge, BeColourful design

Are you ready to try your hand at paper-piecing a Jacqueline de Jonge (BeColourful) design? Join me in making her Happiness 2.0 Project. At 38” x 38”, it is a small wall hanging (or table topper) and it features all of the basic BeColourful paper piecing techniques. It is the perfect beginners quilt in which are shown the 13 techniques that Jacqueline de Jonge uses in all her designs. So, if you have hesitated to start one of the BeColourful designs, start with this one and you can handle them all!

In this workshop we will make the quilt top. Quilting and binding are not included in the workshop.

What is paper-piecing? The quilt pattern is printed on pattern paper, small pieces of fabric are sewn directly to the paper, trimmed to size to make a section of the quilt and then the paper is removed. The various paper-pieced sections are then sewn together to create the quilt top. Paper-piecing improves the accuracy of sewing small fabric pieces together.

Why a Workshop? I am calling this a workshop because I am not making a sample quilt in advance of the class. I will be making the quilt for the first time right along with you. Together, we will interpret the pattern instructions, find the tutorial technique videos and figure out how to put it all together into a beautiful quilt top. Note: I do have a fair amount of paper-piecing experience, having made several (Judy Niemeyer and Jinny Beyer) award-winning paper-pieced quilts, and I am currently working on a BeColourful ‘Four Seasons’ quilted table runner.

You need to buy the Happiness 2.0 pattern and batik fabrics to bring to the workshop.
The Happiness 2.0 pattern includes all of the foundation papers for making the quilt and it gives the fabric amounts needed. In addition to the original colorway, shown above, BeColourful designed 9 additional color variations. You can find more information about Happiness 2.0 and the variations on the BeColourful website, including fabric requirements for all of the variations: https://www.becolourful.com/happiness-20.html. You can, of course, design your own color variation.

Purchase a fabric kit for the quilt, buy fabrics at local quilt shops or pull fabrics from your stash, which is what I am doing. The BeColourful designs use Anthology batik fabrics and I recommend sticking with batik fabrics for this project. To support our local quilt shops, I suggest you phone around to see if anyone locally has the pattern and/or kits. If not, then go online and search for ‘Happiness 2.0 quilt pattern’ or ‘Happiness 2.0 quilt kit’.
