Day 1 - Fabric Collage Workshop using Laura Heine Designs

Shown above are a very few of the Laura Heine collage patterns that are available.  You will purchase a pattern of your choice to work on in this workshop.  (Please do not purchase a 'TEENY TINY COLLAGE' pattern nor a 'WHATEVERS' pattern .  Let's stick with the larger patterns in this workshop.)  Fabric kits are available for many Laura Heine collage designs.  If you have a stash of fabrics, and you save your small, left over pieces like I do, you probably can find much of what you need right there in your stash.  The collages are made up of small fabric pieces, after all.

Laura Heine collage patterns can be found at Fiberworks-Heine.com, at Amazon, at many online quilt shops and at local quilt shops.  Know that there are collage patterns available from other designers but please, for this workshop, be sure to get a Laura Heine pattern.  Many of them can be very whimsical and fun to make.  Get your creative juices flowing.

In this workshop we will begin at the very beginning to build our collages.  Upfront preparations will be primarily to gather together the materials and supplies needed.  We likely will not get our projects finished in the one-day workshop but you will go home with instructions for completing the project.  A second, optional, workshop day is scheduled to work on completing the collage.  There is no Sewing until the project is nearly finished, so you do not need to bring a sewing machine to the day-one workshop.  If you come to the optional second-day workshop, bring your sewing machine then.

Click HERE for the Materials/Supplies list and more information about the workshop.  I am not a certified Laura Heine instructor, so I will deviate from using 'only' Laura Heine techniques.  Just want you to know that.  You can follow my lead or not, your creative choice.

Shown below is a photo of my Hip Hop collage.  It is on display at the store, if you'd like to drop by and see it.  It looks quite different from the pattern envelope picture.  My project for the workshop will be a cat, a pattern named PURRFECT.   I expect it will not look much like the pattern envelope, either, as I am thinking of using Halloween-themed fabric scraps for it.  That is the fun thing about making a collage.  You can be as creative as you wish!
