Dahlia Quilt
While it appears difficult with the curved seams, numerous seam intersections and the challenging Y-seams in the center, I have developed techniques that make it, truly, much easier to construct than it looks. You will learn techniques to precisely cut the quilt pieces, to accurately match intersecting seams and other match points, how to make an easy Y-seam intersection and much more. Even a beginner quilter (one who has solid sewing experience) can make this beautiful quilt. (The first time we offered the class, four of the six class participants were new to quilting and they all made beautiful quilts. Techniques refined since that first class a few years ago make it even easier!) The techniques you learn in this class will be useful in future quilt projects, as well.
The quilt center...the Dahlia...is about 54" square. The finished quilt as shown above is about 64" square. It can be made to fit any size bed by adding different size borders to the 54" center and I will help you design borders to make it into a bed size quilt if that is your wish.
The class meets monthly April through October. Day and evening classes are offered. In class we will make the quilt top. It can then be free-motion quilted, presser-foot quilted or, if you have an embroidery machine, it can be quilted-in-the-hoop with designs of your choosing. I also offer a set of quilting designs digitized specifically for this quilt. This set of designs is an additional $20. A few of the designs are shown below. All of the designs stitched on a muslin sample at the store. Note that they are NOT the designs in the purple quilt that is on display at the store.
