Easy Does It Bag - Serger Version
This is a byAnnie design but Susan's instructions for the serger version.

This handy zippered EASY DOES IT BAG with handles and an inside mesh pocket is great for storing and carrying all your essentials.  These might be supplies for classes, travel gear, small camera equipment, medications, you name it.  Great gift for men, women, teens and kids.  Fabric quilted with a foam interfacing gives great body and stability and ensures long-lasting wear. All seams are bound to give a beautiful finish inside and out. Decorative stitching on the zipper edges.  Finished: 6"H x 9"W x 4¼"D

New to bag making?  Learn some basic techniques for stabilizing, finishing seams and reducing bulk when making bags, AND how to complete some of the key steps on a SERGER.  The serger cannot make the entire bag, but it can reduce some of the steps in the process.  These techniques will carry over to future bag making projects. 

Steps that can be completed on the serger include:
Zipper insertion - even making a decorative zipper edge
Sealing/Flattening seam allowances
Joining zipper and side bands together
Sewing band to side panels to make the bag

Steps that either cannot be done on a serger or are more conveniently done on a sewing machine: Top stitching, quilting and binding the seam allowances.

NOTE: Some chain/coverstitch machines can be used for quilting and for top stitching.  A Babylock 3-4 thread overlock serger that features a Wave Stitch can make the decorative wave-stitched zipper edge shown on the bag in the photos.

    

Class Preparations:
Please complete all 'Preparations' at home, before class, and bring them with you to class.  Preparations include quilting a 'block' of fabric for 'body' of the bag.
